About this property

Welcome to Downtown Value Inn

Downtown Value Inn offers straightforward budget accommodation in the heart of Portland’s city centre. This modest motel provides basic, air-conditioned rooms suitable for travelers seeking affordable lodging with essential comforts. On-site amenities include free Wi-Fi, complimentary parking, a casual restaurant, and a pub, making it a practical choice for visitors who plan to spend most of their time exploring the city rather than lingering on the property.

The location is a key advantage, situated on SW Montgomery Street within easy reach of multiple public transportation options, including bus and streetcar stops. Guests benefit from close proximity to cultural highlights such as the Portland Art Museum and a variety of dining experiences ranging from food trucks to upscale bistros. The lively urban setting offers convenient access to independent shops and other attractions, adding to the appeal for visitors wanting to immerse themselves in local life.

Guest feedback reflects a balance between value and expectations. Many reviewers have praised the staff’s friendliness and efficiency, along with clean and quiet rooms, especially those facing the inner yard. Some comments note minor drawbacks, such as dated décor, occasional noise from nearby transit, and heating effectiveness, but these are generally outweighed by the property’s affordability and location. Families traveling with children will appreciate the kid-friendly environment, although pets are not permitted.

With check-in typically from 3 PM and check-out by 11 AM, this smoke-free motel suits travelers who prioritize convenient city access over luxury. It does not offer a pool, fitness center, or airport shuttle, but its presence in downtown Portland makes it a reasonable option for budget-conscious visitors focused on exploring the city’s attractions rather than on extensive on-site facilities.

My room was clean, quiet, and affordable. Checking in and checking out was great because the employees were very pleasant and quick to ensure that I got in and got out without any issues whatsoever. I would definitely stay here again.

Fantastic hotel. Some of the reviews made me worry about the cleanliness of the rooms, but my room was great. No weird smells or stains. Everything looked clean, the AC worked great, and the small fridge kept my drinks cool for the next day. The room was very quiet, facing the inside yard/parking. It's next to multiple bus and street car stops for easy travel. There are a few food places within 2 blocks around. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They even helped direct me during my silly scavenger hunt game. A perfect place to sleep in between the days of exploring the city. This will definitely be my 1st choice the next time I'm in Portland.

If you just need a bed for the night, it’s perfect. My only main issue was about the heater’s functionality and lack of warm blankets, had to double it up. Even the shower didn’t really get hot. Wasn’t miserable, but not quite as cozy as I wanted. I had to turn the heater all the way up so that it turns off and checks way less frequent and for less duration. Don’t even know if that makes sense but yea, warmer blankets would also fix that problem and they probably do have some if I’d requested. Only other complaint is the trolly / homeless noise but again, you can just wear earplugs. So yeah, it’s a really good value, if I stay there again I’ll just ask for more blankets.

If you stay anywhere else, you’re wasting your money. Here’s why: - The historic building and vintage aesthetic of the rooms don’t lack in the modern consciences. It’s cozy and comfortable - an easy place to rest! - The location is perfect for zipping around to all parts of town quickly. Every mode of Portland’s transit system is conveniently accessible. - Most of all: THE MANAGEMENT AND STAFF ARE OUTSTANDING HOSPITALITY PROFESSIONALS and worth their weight in gold. You are guaranteed to feel safe and at home. 5 stars isn’t a high enough rating for the folks at DVI. Just go see for yourself.

Honestly, for the price, was expecting a stay as terrifying as my stay in downtown Albuquerque. Something dirty, run down, blankets full of holes, swarming with insects etc. Also rampant and visible drug use, especially meth. None of that here. No! I honestly had no complaints about the stay, after my complimentary upgrade this was solidly the best hotel I stayed at during my road trip. The rooms were clean, the showers had a tub, the toilets flushed, there was running hot water, and the location was good. Small thing was my room was right on the MAX line, but that also made my life super convenient. Anywhere I wanted to go I could easily get to, the location was wonderful. After reading what sounded like some horror stories in the reviews regarding deposits etc, I can confirm I was able to receive my deposit from the hotel as released. For what I expected to be a less than optimal stay, but within my budget, I was rewarded with one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at. Can't really recommend highly enough. Like yes, it's a touch dated, but it hits everything you need. Plenty of room, comfortable beds, clean rooms, a working desk area, a fridge and microwave, all the standard amenities including complimentary shampoos and soaps (which were slightly rarer to come by). AC/Heater was functional and satisfactory, which was nice because Portland has relatively cold winters. Great value, good location, and the fastest and friendliest front desk experience I've ever had. If I didn't live here now, I'd be back soon for sure!

Great staff! Parking lot was super convenient. Halls smelled of cigarette smoke but my room thankfully did not. Carpets could probably use a refresh, but overall good place to stay for 1-3 days

This is my new favorite budget hotel in Portland. Right in downtown, walking distance from businesses, coffee shops, restaurants, Portland State U. The area has its homeless but I didn't feel unsafe at night. On-Site parking included - so useful! Tiled bathroom with curved shower curtain rod was a nice bonus. Nicole at reception was fantastic - professional, courteous, she helped resolve a small detail effortlessly. Some rooms are close to tram tracks so ask if you need absolute quiet at night. I'd be happy to stay here again.

Welcoming diamond in the rough :) The location was good. The area was quiet and I felt safe. There was a tram stop under the window, but it did not bother me. The window unit kept the room warm. Blankets were thin, but sufficient. The hotel was old and could have used updates, but it was clean. No breakfast. The staff was welcoming and helpful. There was a parking lot that was bit tricky to get in and out, but it existed, which is a plus in downtown .
